Built From Experience

Hi! I'm Jen Theulen, the human behind all of this.

I was born in the Philippines, raised in San Diego, and now I live (& fish!) in Alaska. I am a parent, spouse, combat veteran, DJ , handy woman and fellow neurospicy person. My education includes a BA in Psychology and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Boston University. Although most of my career has been in the field of addictions, in 2024, I got the opportunity to begin working with people who have neurodevelopmental differences, and it has been rewarding and humbling. My goal with NeuroKind is to help fill some of the gaps in neurodiversity-affirming skill building here in Alaska.

More about me. When I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 35, it helped me reduce the felt shame surrounding my challenges regulating attention, organizing my work, sitting still and managing my emotions. I mean, I knew there was something different about my brain, I just didn’t know what I didn’t know, you know? I then got active, began working with a professional, attended executive functioning trainings, and received the workplace accommodations necessary— what a relief. I mean, I still feel scattered from time-to-time and my hyperfocus can burn.me.out, but at least NOW I have the self-awareness to get back on track when I slip.

Today I strive to empower people to view their brain functioning with compassion, embrace their cognitive superpowers and create systems that work. I would describe my coaching style as empowerment-based, trauma-informed and solution-focused. If this sounds like a good fit for you, I would love to meet and help you be more Neurokind.
